World Cup 2026 Drives a Sharp Increase in Betting Activity in Brazil

09.07.2026
The World Cup has become a major growth driver for Brazil’s regulated betting market. According to a study by fintech company Klavi, the share of users funding betting accounts increased from 11% to 34.8% after the tournament began — more than tripling. The study is based on Open Finance data and covers 1.2 million people.
Crypto Bookmakers: What Are They and How to Use Them?
Deposit Growth
🔵 The average deposit increased from BRL 188 to BRL 272
🔵 The peak average deposit reached BRL 524 on the day after the Brazil-Morocco match
🔵 More than 60% of deposits were made after 6:00 p.m. during match broadcasts
🔵 Morning hours accounted for only 10% of transactions

Spending Concentration

The most active 10% of bettors transferred 20 times more money to betting operators than the remaining 90% combined. The study only included licensed operators, while Klavi estimates that the illegal market still accounts for almost half of all betting activity in the country.

Stronger Regulatory Scrutiny
🔴 The Ministry of Finance launched proceedings against bet365, Betnacional, and KTO over advertising shown during World Cup broadcasts
🔴 The regulator identified pressure on users through urgent calls to place bets and insufficiently visible risk warnings
🔴 Violators may face fines and additional advertising restrictions

Conclusion

World Cup 2026 not only attracted a new audience to betting but also significantly increased average deposit amounts. At the same time, the tournament intensified regulatory scrutiny of advertising, player protection, and the persistently high share of the illegal market.
